My Textile Treasures
one-off pieces of art,
handmade,
by the best craftsmen in their field.
UNESCO masterpieces
of world heritage of humanity.
Imagine you were a thread of fabric…
Since childhood you heard stories of the fabulous artisans who turned your ancestors into treasured textiles and you fantasized about the radiant men and women wearing and using these treasures.
You even heard of some of your ancestors ending up in museums being visited and admired by millions.
Oh you just can’t wait to become a fabric!
Welcome to my world :-)
I am Marijke Jordens and I source gorgeous, handmade fabrics for my collections.
I LOVE handmade fabrics and go out of my way to find artisans so I can design products with their textile treasures.
This includes traveling to exotic little backstreets and artisan’s backyards, like this one.
If you’re interested in owning UNESCO HERITAGE pieces of art that you can actually use and wear without breaking the bank,
I’m your girl!
I specialize in batik, both hand drawn and block printed. I learned how to recognise a real batik from a machine made or screen printed ‘batik’ and this means, to buy fabrics, we are mostly searching in hidden corners of the Indonesian countryside.
Most fabrics sold on the popular markets and in the main streets of the cities are machine made or made for tourists, = overpriced and poor craftsmanship “because handmade mam!”. A far cry from the talent and quality we find upon discovery of a real workshop, filled with treasures, true eye candy, exquisite displays of taste and skill. I think I made my point :-)
Would you like to know how to recognise batik?
and now for the real thing
Ladies and gentlemen,
may I present to you,
my collection
made from the unique, ever charming and timeless, handmade masterpieces
